SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE
March 14 - April 11 2004
Gallery Stratford, Stratford, Ontario, Canada

Olexander's upcoming exhibition at Gallery Stratford centres around the Canadian premiere of Hrynky, 1957 a monumental 1.5 x 4 metre crowd scene. Initially shown this past fall in Kyiv, Ukraine, the work depicts the crowded mass in a single visual sweep.

The exhibition opens Sunday, March 14. There will be an Artist Talk at 1 pm followed by a reception from 2 - 4pm. The address of the gallery is 54 Romeo Street in Stratford, Ontario. You can visit the Gallery Stratford site for directions and more information.

Olexander Wlasenko's pigment on paper works explore the intersection of cinema with drawing. Citing a range of vintage 60s film, the artist captures discrete moments from light Italian comedies, Ukrainian folk tales and Soviet documentaries.

Someone, Somewhere will be shown in conjunction with Representing Cinema: The Art of the Film Poster, curated by Carl Lavoy of the Thames Art Gallery in Chatham, from the collection of Otto Buj.
