KUMF (Canadian-Ukrainian Art Foundation New Faces, New Works Exhibition)
April 28 - May 19, 2002
KUMF Gallery, 2118-A Bloor St. W.,Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I am a child of an immigrant Ukrainian family. The photographs and film stills I choose to draw are touchstones for retrieving a dislocated cultural memory. I am deeply interested in politically sanctioned and sanitised media images. I present these drawings as subjective interpretations of the photographs' imputed objectivity. I draw with dry earth pigment, my visceral alternative to the mechanised production of photographs. The pigment is ground into the surface of the paper - evidence of human touch.
