B & W, an exhibition of new works by artist Olexander Wlasenko, opens on Wednesday, Sept 7 and runs until Saturday, Oct 1, 2005 at Sarah Beveridge Contemporary Art, a new commercial gallery located at 118 Dunlop Street East in downtown Barrie, Ontario.

This solo exhibition features recent works by Wlasenko and will also include an earlier work Hrynky, 1957, Poltava Oblast, pigment on dyed paper, 59" x 158", 2003.  In this exhibit, Wlasenko returns to his Ukrainian roots as a source for his most recent works on paper.  Social realism and hertiage are reflected through his use of family stories, photographs, and films.

Wlasenko was recently awarded winner of the The Drawing Award, Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition 2005, and is also currently featured in a exhibition at Cambridge Galleries, titled Showcase.  Wlasenko has exhibited across Ontario, nationally in Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Dawson City, Yukon. His work has been internationally featured in Florence, Italy, and Kyiv, Ukraine. A second solo exhibition of his work is scheduled for 2006 at the Museum of Cultural Heritage in Kyiv, Ukraine
